CHRISTMAS COFFEE SPECIAL
The festive season is fast approaching. This means that everybody is scrambling with ideas to make memorable impressions to their loved ones. Whether its buying them tangible presents, taking them to places they have always wanted to visit or custom making thoughtful items for them, everyone is trying to express love.
Coffee like all things has its place in christmas celebrations. Lets not associate coffee with work and productivity (as it rightly should be) and give it the relaxation and ambient feel it also deserves. As the mood switches, we can get to enjoy the versatility of the age old beverage.
For alcohol drinkers, the possibilities are endless but its in the non alcoholic portfolio that you are really going to impress your loved ones with your mastery of the fine art of speciality coffee albeit borrowed from the #Coffeemorans guide book.
With a simple modification of your Kahlua to espresso ratio, you can curate your own unique version of the John Doe Spanish latte. That should sound much better with your original name.
Yet, nothing would be more memorable than packaging a thoughtful specialty coffee starter pack for your loved ones.
We spend xmas season at home with family and only step out for essentials from time to time. Your Xmas gift should not be a gift card that will still require a visit to the coffee shop or risk your family being content with a wrong online delivery simply because coffee shops are too busy during Christmas. There is nothing special about that.
Be more creative with a specialty coffee gift set that will require minimum hassle by them to enjoy a pleasant cuppa Joe. This must however, shouldn’t perpetuate the association that has been put between bitterness and coffee. Make sure its great coffee.
The most important item in this mini project should be specialty coffee and preferably a variety from different origins.
In Kenya there are a few roasteries that sell freshly roasted specialty coffee like Coffee Morans Jowam Coffee and Safari lounge among others.
If you are getting a variety of coffee from overseas then always check whats from the coffee belt. Generally, the coffee origins that are within 25 degrees north of the equator and 30 degrees south of the equator are considered to be in the most suitable conditions for the crop to thrive, also known as the coffee belt.
The next trick is to check the altitude of the origin and its proximity to a volcanic mountain. Both altitude and volcanic soil are factors that contribute to amazingly complex coffee taste notes.
None of Colombian, Yirgachefe Ethiopia, Nyeri Kenya or Sumatra Indonesia coffees are primarily better than the other but they are all famous for their high altitudes and rich soils. They also lie within the coffee belt.
The ultimate present would be to get your loved ones a variety from the different origins and let them decide their preference. Alternatively, you could locally assort it from a variety of famous origins like Nyeri, Elgon and Kisii or the broader East Africa region of Tanzania, Rwanda and Uganda.
If we haven’t spoken your language yet, We totally get it. Black coffee is not for everyone. In fact coffee is not for everyone. So why not package something that gives the whole family flexibility to custom their own drinks.
The next must have item in the gift pack would be a hand frother. They are small in size, meaning they will fit in almost any gift box. Hand frothers do all the magic that gets you cappuccinos and lattes (Don’t pack electric frothers in carry on bagage unless your Christmas present is for the immigration.)
The next piece of your gift set is to add a small bottle of caramel, chocolate or vanilla sauce which are the “not so secret” ingredients for making your famous starbucks coffee. We don’t usually support such mutilation on premium beans but christmas is the best time for everyone to have their pleasures as they want them. If you are not sure where to get these sauces, look out for Montys Sarit center, Dormans or Java Kenya.
The final piece in your xmas gift is to buy the coffee drip bags. Grind your specialty coffees to medium size, pack them in the drip bags and seal each bag. You should add a description card of each origin to each package. Thats a nice set up for the family to play a nice game of blind tasting the different coffees.
If this preparation sounds tedius, reach out to #CoffeeMorans for their 2024 Xmas special package or call your specialty coffee supplier with this idea and let them package something similarly unique for your loved ones.
We wish you a happy holiday season, merry Xmas and a happy new year.
